Honestly, I was on the fence about getting another dog. I grew up with mix breed shepherds and had a great time as a kid with my dogs. Going into adult hood I saw that the demand that a dog puts on your social life was tremendous. After my last dog past away, at the ripe old age of 19, I was sad but also relieved that I now had the freedom to come and go without working my dogs into the equation. That was some 25 years ago. That was until I met Charles Turner of North East Patrol Dogs. Charlie was very easy to talk to and I immediately saw an individual who was passionate about his dogs and his business. Little did I know that he had already spoken to my wife, Marlene and had already sold her on getting a dog. Now it was my turn and as with everything, I am a tough sell. Charlie took the time to explain to me the differences in owning a working dog as opposed to a house pet. He explained to me the differences in breed lines and expanded my knowledge of dogs in general. He left the decision up to me and put me at ease with most of my concerns. We are now the proud pet parents of Midnight Excalibur Vom Gladiator, a black German shepherd with an East European breed line. When we picked him up in Shady Springs,West Virginia we spent a day and a half with Charlie and his family, getting to know our puppy. It was a long time since we handled a dog and Charlie was most helpful in getting us reacquainted with dog ownership. We got to see the operation and the care and professionalism that is given to all of his dogs. We took lots of pictures and will recreate the kennel area on a smaller scale in our backyard. With our puppy in tow, the ride back toNew York fromWest Virginia was great. The dog was well prepared and he took to the transport crate without a care. We stopped in DC for two days and checked into a pet friendly Marriott. Midnight was the talk of the town. Few people had seen an all black German shepherd and even fewer could believe that he was only eight weeks old. With only some minor moaning throughout the night we all got a good night’s sleep and woke to find that the crate was still dry. No Accidents? Impossible. But that was and has been the case. This dog was well prepared and is another testimony to the work and preparation that was done by Charlie. We are thrilled to have Midnight as part of our family and we are now looking for a local Schutzhund club so that we can illuminate the character of our dog. Even if a title is not in his future, we are looking forward to getting involved in a great activity and to having fun as a family. Thank you Charlie and Northeast Patrol Dogs for giving us a great puppy.
